It is common to find skill in painting; an art that can be taught through technique and curriculum at any established institution. It is not common; however, and it can be said quite rare to find talent in painting, and harder still to find a combination of both. Talent is enough to convey vague emotion through a painting, but ultimately, skill is needed to give both form and thought to that emotion. It has been said that the hardest subject for a painting is a human being. People can convey, through both expression and body language, such a vast range of thought and emotion that only an artist with the greatest skill and talent can capture both the figure and the essence of human life.
A combination of skill and talent of just such a degree can be found in the work of Claudia Hernandez. One can clearly recognize in her work the mark of an artist, not simply of mere method, but of passion as well. The masterful way in which she composes her subjects and the emotions conveyed in each portrait give testimony to her talent, above all else, and the lengths to which it was developed and shaped into a technique all her own.
